tanyth berkeley, sketchbook and jan

hi! so i meant to make a post last week, but i knew that i had some arty things to do for school that i thought would be fun to share on here... so i waited an extra week. forgive me.
i had my first week back to a new semester and i'm extremely scared and excited because i now have sculpture and painting/drawing (and a prose fiction and art history class blah). so far they SEEM to be fairly straightforward but i'm going to probably look back at this post in a few weeks and laugh at my naivety.

also i finally got back my prints from the Letinsky assignment that i handed in for my final! there are 4 other prints that i'll upload once i have a chance but these two are my favourite.

in my painting class we got assigned our first mini project which was to combine acrylic paint and different found pictures to create an artwork based off of one of your favourite artists. i chose the american photographer Tanyth Berkeley and had so much fun with the assignment! here are some pictures of my sketchbook filled with Berkeley's work that helped organize my ideas.

the left is the front page, not tanyth's work woops!

(click Linda below for more of Tanyth's work)

i didn't grab an entire picture of my painting but here are some strange bits below, sorry! also when i presented it in front of my class everyone seemed grossed out????

i've also been watching the Golden Girls a lot and i HAD to take pics of my TV of Dorothy and Blanche holding chicken (and coming from a vegetarian i thought this was hilarious)

finally here's a fun video for you guys to watch. it's by one of my favourite artists/directors Jan Svankmajer called Food and it's one of the weirdest/coolest/most inspiring interpretations of the human relationship and interaction with food that i've ever seen!

anyway thanks for reading! i'm going away this weekend to Montreal to see Christopher Owens so expect a post in the coming week about that!

  3. Wow seeing all of your art posts remind me of how I desperately need to upload some of the things I've made! I really like your pictures of your TV. No idea why, but I used to take pictures like that on my camera and I really just enjoy how the color cells show up only in photographs. Oh my this is a long comment sorry! JAN SVANKMAJER that is all.
