happy holidays cuties of the interweb! so if you haven't noticed, the holiday season is here and it seems like everything and everyone around you is forcing you to feel cheery and happy!
but i'm feeling blue and i honestly don't know why, because i'm surrounded by such wonderful people, and i have a warm home to live in and i have my health etc. fortunately listening to Christmas Makes Me Blue by Simone White makes me feel like i'm not alone
the video is also really cute
so i've been trying to get into the holiday spirit by watching Elf, Santa Claus is Comin' to Town, Home Alone, and pretty much any other xmas movie you can think of. i also made cookies, and did an outfit post beside my tree (can you spot my pacifier ornament???? might start wearing it as a necklace when i have to take down the tree). i also dyed my hair back to pink since it's the easiest colour to achieve without having to bleach my locks again. i tried to do some serious posing but gave up sorry
the skort (HA) is thrifted, beach house sweater from the show in october, glitter tights from Sears (???) and my yellow dr.martens from a local store! heh hey DIVINE I see you!!!!!!!
since my mom's a teacher i went into her classroom to volunteer (weeee my exams are over!!!) and instead coloured with crayons oops
also i did some embroidery! it only took me 3 flipping hours to make a flower and a tooth. i feel like my attention span might be too short for embroidery
i went thrifting last week and picked up a photo album which i'm going to use to put all my loose doodles and collages in- since i usually just store them messily on my desk/in drawers
the cover
my socks/newspaper clipping from when thurston moore came to ottawa
same sock print/roger waters drawing
diary entry/print of ashley
pictures for collages
finally, i thought i would show my final project that i made fore my video/projection class. it's an extension on my piece on menstrual cycles that i did for my first assignment and instead decided to approach the subject through presenting it as a ritual. i placed 7 different objects relating to periods in a semi circle around a hanging bed sheet, and walked clockwise, collecting a piece of yarn that connected all of the objects. there's symbolic meaning in all of the objects as well as in the video projected on the bed sheet but i think it's more interesting to leave that to the viewer to interpret rather than have me give it all away!
it's hard to make out with this picture but i'm cleaning a stained bed sheet with water in the projection video
happy holidays thanks for reading!

Your hair is so cute! I like that menstrual cycle project you did!
ReplyDeletethank you and thank you- i think you're a cutie!! <3
Deletehaha i understand christmas making you blue despite all of the lovely people around you. that is how i felt last year, but this year i decided not to have any expectations but instead to just enjoy whatever happened during this holiday :) I dig that pacifier ornament and you should def. wear it as a necklace after christmas! waaah! is embroidery hard? i really like the look of it but i'm not sure i would have the patience/attention span either. hmm...future diy ideas...also, i like the idea of using a photo album to store all the bits and scraps that you create/accumulate. that's a good solution as i too just tend to scatter all my art/collage paraphernalia around my room in a disorganized mess. your idea for video/projection class is cool; i like the idea of menstruation as a ritual...interesting. :) well, i hope your holiday is DA BEST and not too blueee!
ReplyDeleteit's not too hard i'm just really picky and neat and i get flustered if the embroidery doesn't line up to how i had it planned oops!and thank you i'm glad you liked my project ah it really means a lot, i was a little iffy about it when i first thought of it <3 and hope you have a great holiday as well sweet pea!!!!!!
DeleteOMG the hair! It is awesome looooooove it. And your piece on the menstrual cycle is very interesting, the im sure the use of the video as well would have made it very poignant I would have loved to see it in real life.
ReplyDeleteaw thank youuuuu (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧ my professor has my video documentation of the project so when i get it back maybe i'll post it!
DeleteGot to love a good skort! They are so liberating.
ReplyDeleteI really like your menstrual cycle thing, and I know this is probably weird but I think the whole menstruation thing is so fascinating, from a scientific perspective but also how people can come to plan their lives around it, and how some people are so secretive and others talk about it so freely, etc.
Also that album is astounding and so are your pictures <3
And just a question - that dummy ornament (sorry it's the Australian word, pacifier sounds so weird to me), does it light up, or is it illuminated by the Christmas lights? Because in the case of the former that would make a radical necklace!
YES LIBERATING IS THE PERFECT WORD TO DESCRIBE A SKORT!!!! and thank you ah you're so right about ppl feeling uncomfortable about periods, it was exactly the kind of message i was aiming towards. omg that's so cool dummy means pacifier (totes going to be using that) and it's a pink glass ornament- a lil heavy but i think my neck muscles can handle it
DeleteI don't know if i've said this before but i love your drawings they're great. Your style sort of reminds me of my sisters! this is her deviantart- www.wolfship.deviantart.com
ReplyDeleteI love your hair. The project sort of freaks me out a little but I bet it's awesome to actually see.
